Abstract

The concern to implement responsible management, generating sustainable value in higher education,
led to the creation of the initiative called Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).
The objective is to guide business schools to implement responsible management. This research aimed
to analyze how the PRME principles are developed in four business schools that are signatories of the
initiative, located in the south and southeast regions of Brazil. A qualitative, descriptive approach was
used, whose strategy was the study of multiple cases. Data were collected through semi-open interviews
and documents. The results show that the analyzed institutions carry out different actions to
operationalize the principles. The development of partnerships and the approach of responsible
management in disciplines of management courses was an action found in all universities. This research
theoretically contributed to the advancement of the literature on the subject, bringing empirical evidence
of actions and practices carried out by Brazilian business schools to develop the principles for
responsible management education. It is expected that this research can generate insights in change
agents linked to business schools, in addition to helping in the planning and execution of actions in
order to operationalize the principles of responsible management.
