Manchester Paulista X Moscou Brasileira
“pitos” e apitos na relação de trabalho entre o operariado e a burguesia no início do século XX
Abstract
Social relationships in Sorocaba in the early 20th century have always been shown in chronicles and articles in a bucolic manner. The ideology of work has perpetuated the memory of the bosses as the builders of the “Manchester Paulista” in street and square names and in monuments. This article intends to present the working class in its struggle to keep up its labor force and to show how the factory siren was the voice of the employer echoing around town. The “Paulista” or “Brazilian
Moscow” was relegated to a secondary plan by the dominating ideology. The anonymity of repetitive and alienating work was all that was left to the working class.
