Educação em Sorocaba
de 1728 à 1920
Abstract
Formal education in Sorocaba was restricted to an elite which did not seem to care much about it. Such situation began to change by the end of the 19th century due to the urban growth, to the industrialization process, to the democratization of the political power, to the new patterns of life and to the miscegenation which took place in many areas of society. Although insufficient, since these changes did not manage to cause a revolution in social patterns, they helped the sociocultural recovery of certain less-favored social layers.
