Abstract

This work deals with the social construction of age-groups and, in special, with the so-called “old age”. By facing the challenge of the social sciences viewpoint, the authors intend to establish links between aging and the social context influences, acknowledging the cultural diversity in the construction of age-groups and the social influence on the making up of the “old age group” with some special references as to the meaning of old age for women.
