Amado Nervo e a Quarta Dimensão
Abstract
Brazilian culture, in a wide sense, lacks the non- Euclidian language. Even in a narrower sense, there's an insignificant number of non-Euclidian Geometry courses at college level. In 1917, the famous Amado Nervo wrote about the fourth dimension with remarkable – not to say astonishing - mathematical support. The present article draws a brief profile of the author, characterizing him, although sparingly, as a person. It also describes shortly the situation of Physics at the time, which rose a greater interest in non-Euclidian Geometry. The essay by Amado Nervo approaches topics of the fourth dimension in a exclusively mathematical way. However, the author's philosophical inferences are seldom rational, This could be expected from a poet, but not his interest for this subject.
