Abstract

This work intends to focus the moment of the military coup “état of 1964 in Sorocaba. The main point is to know what the division of the political forces was like, who was in the progressist position and who represented the conservative interests. Besides that, we intend to characterize the economical situation of Sorocaba and its influence in the development of the facts here studied. Finally, we tried to find out how the police repression took place and its consequences for the city.
