Abstract

The article seeks to understand alternatives in the Brazilian evangelical songbook in the work of artists who do not identify with the hegemonic gospel label. Terms like “music made by Christians” and “Brazilian music woven in hope” are mobilized for songs that deal with everyday life. We seek to reflect on the production of meaning in the songs of the artists: Marcos Almeida, Estêvão Queiroga and Gerson Borges. The analysis of the composers' work aims to deepen the discussion on Brazilian evangelical music and encourage other ways of understanding the song through cultural uses and appropriations. Methodological procedures include: semiotic analysis from Lotman’s perspectiva, and the notion of musical genre, in according to Fabbri, through categories called anaphonies and musemes from Tagg’s perspective.

Possui Pós-doutorado em Comunicação pela ECA-USP (2015); Doutorado (2003); Mestrado (1994) em Comunicação e Semiótica e Graduação (1987) em História pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. Bolsista de produtividade em pesquisa-2 do CNPq, docente pesquisador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação Social (PósCom) da Universidade Metodista de São Paulo (UMESP) desde 2016.
