Abstract

This article emphasizes the importance to develop a research on female participation in the Constitutional Revolution of 1932. In Sorocaba, as in many other regions within the state of São Paulo, women played a primary role in supporting and assisting those who were at the front. Strategically, they morally backed. the Revolution, by pushing the men into becoming combatants and by creating an infrastructure capable of helping soldiers in transit, feeding and clothing them. They helped in keeping public order, in collecting donations, acted as nurses and even substituted for factory workers in maneuvering industrial machinery. This article lists some of these heroines and their activities in Sorocaba in 1932.
