Abstract

This article deals with the violence perpetrated against two world pop artists, Andy Warhol and John Lennon, both residents of New York, who were shot on different dates by people who were considered close to them. Starting from the perspective of Slavoj Zizek, for whom violence can be symbolic or systemic, this article aims to reflect on the violence-death relationship between artists who are considered world-famous, but who are victimised and exploited by the media as characters and not as people. To this end, television and print news, testimonies and stories from different places and trends are presented without falling into Manichaeisms that demonise both the media and the artists.
