Abstract

This article conceptualizes “simulation” as a form of artistic representation capable of signifying human experience through rules and dynamic interactive processes. Two questions are investigated: 1) What does this form of representation indicate about the historical moment in which it is consolidated? and 2) With its consolidation, what can we say about the world through art that we could not before? It is concluded that simulations can simultaneously serve to reinforce dominant ideologies and allow for subversive ways to represent radically different realities.
