In this paper, a methodology known as Pragmatic Analysis of the Journalistic Narrative was applied on environmental journalistic stories about the biodiversity crisis published by the Brazilian newspaper “Folha de S. Paulo” in 2022. The goal behind this process was to identify the occurrence of certain mistakes, or vices, in contemporary press coverage regarding environmental issues. Such an analysis is justified by the need to understand these vices, so that they are taken into account by teachers who intend to use journalistic texts on environmental issues as part of their classes. The main finding of this study concerns the fact that academic sources predominate in journalistic texts about the biodiversity crisis, which is precisely one of the anticipated vices; on the other hand, the absence of fragmentation was also observed in these texts, which ends up offsetting the prioritization of academic sources.
