Abstract

The aim of this work is to investigate spectator mobilization strategies for causes such as violence against women according to the work Distant Suffering by Luc Boltanski. The author studies how piety policies work and develops a formula for the creation of expressive forms, such as music, films, stories, to engage the spectator in a certain cause through imagination. Based on this we analyse two videos related to that topic. The first one was produced by UN Women in Brazil in partnership with Globo Network in 2020 and the second one was produced in the same year by the Santa Catarina Public Ministry. Thus, we seek to understand whether those videos attend to Boltanski formula and therefore can engage the spectator to the presented cause.

Graduado em História pela Universidade de São Paulo e feito mestrado em Ciências da Comunicação pela mesma universidade. Doutorei-me em Comunicação e Semiótica pela PUC-SP, com uma pesquisa que investiga as pinturas rupestres mineiras à luz da semiótica da cultura. Atualmente faço um estágio de pós-doutorado pela Universidade de Sorocaba.
