Abstract

This essay-style paper aims to reflect, through images, on the centrality of the image in the workplace as a form of social exclusion. It considers both the images circulating in internal communication and the images constructed about the body and the person who are detached from the visual world. The discussion is supported by three images that sustain an interpretative analysis of the political nature of image use and the inclusion of people with visual impairments in organizations. The reflection points to two dimensions that must be considered when discussing the inclusion of people with visual impairments in organizations and the world of images: (1) the limitations imposed by a society organized around visual centrality, which excludes people with visual impairments from information access and the exercise of citizenship in organizational settings; and (2) the representation, through images, of notions of ability, normality, and potentiality of people with disabilities.
