An education for the memory of the Brazilian Independence Centennial

The centennial of Brazilian independence was an ephemeris marked by games of production and struggle of memory. In this sense, we seek to give visibility to the commemoration of the centennial of independence through the periodicals O Norte and Era Nova. When celebrating the bicentennial of independence in 2022, it seems salutary to reflect on the architecture of the centennial festivities. Based on the analysis of the process of memory fabrication around Brazil's independence, the paper is divided into two parts. The first part is a reflection about the centennial of independence and the fabrication of the national feeling. In the second part, we reflect on the periodicals analyzed in the audiovisual products and the discourses that color in circulation at the time. These movements allowed us to observe how these commemorations were part of a process of fabrication and monumentalization of memory, as well as to question ourselves in the face of the passage of 200 years of independence.
