Ethnic-Racial relations in Science Teaching in the training process of pedagogy students

This paper, based on studies on Ethnic-Racial Relations in Science Teaching, aimed to analyze the contributions of training research on Ethnic-Racial Relations in Science Teaching in the initial years, for the training process of students of pedagogy. The research, of an empirical qualitative nature, includes data from a master's research carried out with 37 pedagogy students from a public university in the state of Bahia, Brazil. To produce the data, online Class Diaries were used, organized based on Content Analysis. The results reveal that a monocultural curriculum does not contribute to the initial training of pedagogues who will work in the initial years. Furthermore, it was evident that the training process contributed to the change in thinking of the students involved, regarding the conception of a “single history” produced. Caused by whiteness and how it is necessary to take positive discussions around Ethnic-Racial Relations to science classes, in order to promote education for citizenship. With regard to the possibilities of working with Ethnic-Racial Relations in Science Teaching in the initial years, it was evident that the students initially envisage a reformulation of the school curricula, including the ERER as a proposition for all levels of schooling, in order to comply with the obligation of Law 10,639/2003.
