Abstract

This article presents an excerpt from a doctoral thesis, co-supervised by a researcher affiliated with the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. The research focused on the Scientific and Technological Initiation Program – PICT-EAD, analyzed as an innovative practice in the academic-scientific training of students in the distance higher education modality. The program is structured in progressive stages that cover everything from the foundations of scientific initiation to the production and dissemination of academic works. Through the use of digital environments and collaborative mediation strategies, PICT-EAD redefines scientific initiation in the context of distance education. Its synchronous and asynchronous actions, combined with management focused on the needs of students, promote protagonism, engagement, and academic, personal, and professional growth. The articulation between theory and practice, with multiple pedagogical and technological resources, configures a flexible, dialogic, and constantly evolving proposal. Thus, PICT-EAD emerges as a transformative model that expands access to scientific culture and can inspire new practices in distance higher education.
